Beating a Path to a New Door: ThunderEcho Drum Company Gives Trash Kat Drum Room to Prowl

Medina, Ohio (PRWEB) October 28, 2007 -- Kevin and Jane Reed, the Son-and-Mother drum building team, are picking up the tempo. The makers of the Trash Kat, an urban-looking, timpani-sounding floor drum fashioned from a galvanized can, rapidly outgrew their old drum workshop almost as soon as they moved in two years ago. The good news is that they found a larger one nearly in their backyard.

Since May, they have been coordinating a massive remodeling project on the 11,000 square foot building, of which 4,200 square feet now houses their drum building shop. The three other units will be leased out. Located on Ohio Route 42, a few miles from Interstate-71, it is conveniently located in one of the fastest growing counties in the state. With 300 feet of frontage, their first priority was to improve its curb appeal: fresh paint inside and out, new storefront windows and shop doors, clean up of the nearly four-acre lot, and a bit of landscaping around the "torpedo" pole. Yes, the building sports what the locals call a torpedo. The now green, 25 foot long missile-shaped object is perched above the building on a pole, aimed at the horizon. It is a local landmark from the early days when a military surplus store occupied the site and according to Jane, works better than GPS in identifying the shop

The added space offers Trash Kat designer, Kevin Reed, room for product line expansion. "I have many ideas, but had no room in our old workshop to work on them," he explains. "We hope to introduce a new drum in 2008."

Yet, 2007 was a great year for the original Trash Kat drum, adding to the list of notable Trash Kat enthusiasts such as Adrian Young, John Mahon, Rodger Carter, Eric Darken, Chris Rubio, Recycled Percussion, Street Drum Corps, the Lionel Hampton School of Music, NAMM's Museum of Making Music, and being placed in the Van's Warped Tour Exhibit in Cleveland's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. In 2007 the Trash Kat became a favorite of Nashville's Eric Darkin, four-time Academy of Country Music Award nominee.

On the West Coast, the virtues of the Trash Kat are being drummed by no less than Brian MacLeod, LA songwriter and drummer whose credits include Madonna, Sheryl Crow, Tears for Fears, Jewel, Melissa Etheridge, The The, Christina Aguilera, Ziggy Marley and many others. Brian calls the Trash Kat his "secret weapon." Andy Korn, drummer for Ronnie Spector and Josh Fix started playing the Kat in 2007, as did Chris Rubio of Stomp. So ThunderEcho Drum Company's new drum workshop will accommodate ever-increasing production.

You can try out the Trash Kat at ThunderEcho Booth #427 during the Percussive Arts Society International Convention (PASIC) in Columbus Ohio, November 1-3, 2007, or come further north to the new workshop. Kevin and Jane and the Kat would love to see you.
